Maesuring your child’s foot is the best way to determine which size ballet shoe you should buy for your child or toddler. You can do this easily at home by measuring the length of their foot and the width at the widest point.
Your child should be standing and you need to keep an eye on their toes, because toddlers and younger children tend to curl their toes under which may lead to an incorrect measurement.
There are various ways that you can try to measure your child’s feet:
FOOT PRINT METHOD
Mostly toddlers or kids love painting. Paint the sole of their feet with a paintbrush and then let your toddler or kid walk along a piece of paper you have rolled out. Let the paper dry. You can also put down more pieces of paper for your toddler or kid to just have fun with. When the original one is dry, measure both the length of their foot and the width at the widest part of the foot with a ruler. This will give you the measurements that you can match up with the shoe suppliers sizing guide.
TRACING METHOD
Trace around your child’s or toddler’s foot on some paper. You can stick the paper to a stable surface so it doesn’t move. Measure the outline as explained above. You can have some fun by letting your child to color in his/her foot trace with some pencils.
JUST MEASURE THEIR FOOT
Measure the length of their foot and the width with a tape measure. But this might be not that easy as it seems because your child can twitch or wiggle his/her foot which can lead to a faulty measurement. So the first two measurement ways explained above might be more accurate.
If you have any of your own tricks to get your child’s measurements, just don’t hesitate to try it out! Creative ways might be even more fun and lead to enjoyable moments with your child.
